The festive season is still ongoing and in the next few days, we’ll see the final set of fixtures in the Saudi Pro League before they go on their festive break. We’re over half way through the campaign and although many teams know what they’re aiming for, there are bound to be a few twists and turns in the months ahead. Today, we’ll be taking a look at a fun clash between Al-Fateh and Al Akhdoud.
Al-Fateh Form GuideThe great thing about Al-Fateh is that they are a shining example of how well the pyramid system can work. For the longest time, they were down in the lower leagues of Saudi football - but they’ve done a great job of working their way up to the top. At this point, they’re an ever-present member of the SPL, and you’d have to imagine the only way is up.
After losing 1-0 to Al-Taee, another defeat was on the horizon as they came up short against Al-Hazm. They did manage to earn a point against Al-Shabab, though, and from there, they went on the road and picked up an important 3-1 win over Al-Taawoun.
Al Akhdoud Form GuideWhen you consider the fact that Al Akhdoud were in the fourth tier just five years ago, it’s pretty remarkable to see how far they’ve come. Last season, they finished third in Division One, meaning they were able to earn promotion to the big time. They did lose three of their last five games, but they still got over the finish line and booked their place in the top flight.
Following a 1-0 win over Al-Ettifaq, Al Akhdoud slipped to a 2-0 defeat on the road to Al-Wehda. They proceeded to edge past Al-Taee with a decent 1-0 win, and from there, they registered the same victory - this time over Al-Shabab, with both teams having ten men.
Match PredictionAl-Fateh and Al Akhdoud are tough teams to predict and that level of volatility can often lead to stalemate games in a league like this one. There are going to be plenty of opportunities flying around but nothing of much substance, which is why we’re predicting under 2.5 goals will be scored.
