On Sunday morning, PSV Eindhoven have the chance to seal the Eredivisie title when they host Sparta Rotterdam at the Philips Stadion.
PSV set to become Dutch championsThe home team heads into this encounter knowing that avoiding a defeat would crown them as Dutch champions for the first time since 2018.
Peter Bosz’s team has been on a winning streak, having recorded four consecutive victories in the Eredivisie. Their recent results include a 5-1 win against AZ, a 6-0 triumph over Vitesse, and a staggering 8-0 victory at Heerenveen.
The results mean that PSV has scored 21 goals in their last four home games in the Dutch top flight.
The league leaders have a formidable recent home record in the Eredivisie. They are unbeaten in their previous 25 home league matches, having recorded 22 wins and three draws.
Unsurprisingly, PSV have been prolific in the Eredivisie at the Philips Stadion, scoring at least two goals in 21 of their 22 matches.
Sparta clinging onto the last European spotThe visitors are currently in eighth place in the table, a position that would earn them a place in the Europa League play-offs next season.
However, they are level on points and goal difference with ninth-place Go Ahead Eagles, although has scored more goals which is currently why they occupy eighth-place and not ninth-place in the standings.
Sparta’s recent form has certainly further their cause for a top-eight spot. The visitors have recorded four wins in their last five matches.
Like their hosts, Jeroen Rijsdijk’s team’s recent league games have certainly not been lacking in goals, with over 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven Eredivisie outings.
Sparta has won their last two away games in the Dutch top-flight at Vitesse and Almere City. However, they had failed to win in their previous away games.
What am I backing?I believe that PSV will get the result needed to clinch the title. However, the home win offers little value. Instead, the bet I am backing is over 2.5 goals, as both teams are involved in high-scoring games.
