The final countdown to UEFA Euro 2024 has officially begun as we approach a string of highly anticipated international friendlies. Some of the nations that are playing this week are heading for the big tournament and others aren’t, but either way, it’s important for all of them to try and build some momentum. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the impending clash between Switzerland and Estonia.
Switzerland Form GuideFor so many years now, Switzerland have been seen as dark horses in a lot of the international competitions they qualify for. In the end, though, they ultimately just make up the numbers, either falling away in the group stage or failing to do much of significance in the knockouts. Still, there’s a belief within the core of their squad, and that’s all you can really ask for at this point.
Switzerland, as tends to be the case for them, had a solid qualifying campaign. They finished 2nd in their group behind Romania but edged past Israel to ensure they reached the final tournament. It certainly wasn’t their finest outing, but they did what they had to do.
Estonia Form GuideEstonia serve as one of Europe’s big ‘underdog’ nations, as they’ve never qualified for a major tournament. Still, that doesn’t mean they haven’t had their moments in qualifying, and it certainly doesn’t mean they can’t have some joy in the future. They are an exciting, unpredictable team to watch when they want to be, and it’s just a case of finding a system that keeps them consistent.
Estonia actually finished last in their qualifying group with just one point from eight games - but as a result of their performances in the Nations League, they made it into the play-offs. Unfortunately for them, things didn’t quite go to plan in their semi-final against Poland, and they were heavily beaten 5-1.
Match PredictionIn a game like this, the whole point is to do everything in your power to make an impact - but at the same time, there are far more important matches that lie ahead. Therefore, while we do think there will be some big moments here and there, our official prediction is a fairly comprehensive but dull Switzerland win.
